Challenge :

Generate  an example of  cell specific gene expression.

  1. Is there a way to measure expression of peroxidase from wounding the potato to show differentiation from a healthy potato cell to a wounded potato cell, thus showing cell specific gene expression

  2. yes , that is an interesting solution to the challenge . How would one measure peroxidase activity at the cellular level ?

  3. 1- potato slice on slide
2- stain one slice of potato with methaline blue to show cells
3 - stain a different slice of potato with
iodine to prove presence of starch
4- stain a 3rd slice of potato with iodine
and methylene blue to show cells making starch and cells not making starch
5- look at slides under microscope..methylene blue only shows cells by dying the nucleus dark blue, iodine slide shows starch as dark brown spots, and the cell with methylene and iodine showed cells with dark brown spots and blue nuclei

Our test consists of 3 potatoes, methalin blue, iodine
*Cell Exposure: We used methaline blue on the potatoes to show cells the color of the cells were faint bluish color under the microscope
*Presence of Starch: When iodine is added to the potato the color of the potato immediately turned into a purple black color.
*Starch and No Starch:Adding the methylene blue and the iodine to the potato shows the nucleus as dark blue while the iodine colors the cells a brownish color
